"Weekend in New England" is a song written by Randy Edelman, and released by Barry Manilow on his 1976 album This One's For You. The song was released as a single in 1976, reaching number one on the U.S. Adult Contemporary (Easy Listening) chart and number ten on the Billboard Hot 100.[1] It is a classic example of Manilow's popular style of big ballad, including a romantic theme, swelling orchestration and a dramatic finish.[citation needed] The only reference to the title is the line, "Time in New England took me away...", and the word "weekend" is never mentioned at all. It was followed by the single, "Looks Like We Made It".

The Reba McEntire song, "Whoever's in New England," is seen by many[by whom?] as an answer song to "Weekend In New England", as sung by the wife of a philandering husband who has an ongoing affair with someone in New England.

This song was recorded by John Barrowman for his 2007 album Another Side, while Manilow's version was heard in the 2009 comedy Paul Blart: Mall Cop.

"All Night Long (All Night)" is a hit single for Lionel Richie from 1983. Taken from his second solo album, Can't Slow Down, it combined Richie's soulful Commodores style with Caribbean influences. This new, more dance approach proved popular, as the single reached number one on three Billboard charts (pop, R&B and adult contemporary).^[2]

In the UK, the song was kept off the top spot by Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl", peaking at number two on the UK Singles Chart for three weeks.

The song lyrics were written primarily in English, but Richie has admitted in at least one press interview that "African" lyrics are in the song, such as "Oh jambali Tom bo li d, say de moi ya," and "Jambo jumbo," were in fact made-up gibberish of his own invention.^[3] Richie has described these portions of the song as a "wonderful joke," written when he discovered that he lacked the time to hire a translator to contribute the foreign language lyrics he wished to include in the song.^[4]

The Bee Gees were a pop music group that was formed in 1958. The group's line-up consisted of brothers Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio were successful for most of their decades of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a rock act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as prominent performers of the disco music era in the late 1970s. 

The group sang recognisable three-part tight harmonies; Robin's clear vibrato lead vocals were a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry's R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. They wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists. Born on the Isle of Man to English parents, the Gibb brothers lived in Chorlton, Manchester, England, until the late 1950s, and formed The Rattlesnakes. 

The family then moved to Redcliffe, in Queensland, Australia, and then to Cribb Island. After achieving their first chart success in Australia as the Bee Gees with "Spicks and Specks" (their 12th single), they returned to the UK in January 1967 where producer Robert Stigwood began promoting them to a worldwide audience. The Bee Gees have sold more than 120 million records worldwide, making them one of the world's best-selling music artists of all time.[2] They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997;[3] the presenter of the award to "Britain's first family of harmony" was Brian Wilson, historical leader of the Beach Boys, a "family act" also featuring three harmonising brothers.[4] 

The Bee Gees' Hall of Fame citation says "Only Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks and Paul McCartney have outsold the Bee Gees."[5] Following Maurice's death in January 2003 at the age of 53, Barry and Robin retired the group's name after 45 years of activity. In 2009 Robin announced that he and Barry had agreed that the Bee Gees would re-form and perform again.[6] Robin died in May 2012 at the age of 62, after a prolonged struggle with cancer.[7]
